Will vs. Living Will

Wills and living wills sound similar, but they are entirely different things.

A will specifies how you want to distribute your property when you pass away. A will only covers certain property you own, called your probate estate. Non-probate property, such as life insurance proceeds and retirement plans, follow other rules of distribution outside of the will.

By contrast, a living will (aka an advance directive or advance decision) tells your doctors whether you want death-delaying procedures, such as feeding tubes, when you have been diagnosed with a terminal condition and can no longer make decisions for yourself.

Thickstun Luo LLC can help you write a will and/or living will to meet your estate planning needs in Illinois or Indiana. Contact us today for a consultation.
